Well bit the bullet and purchased a MEP006A ex-military generator. Waiting on paperwork to go actually pick it up but from the photo’s and my dad’s inspection…should be a pretty nice unit!

I HAVE TWO OF THE MEP-OO6, ONE HAS BEEN STRIPPED OF IT’S ENJECTOR PUMP, AND ENGINE WIRE HARNESS AND IS TRAILER MOUNTED.
THE OTHER IS COMPLETE BUT SOMEONE HAS LOOSENED ALL BOLTS AROUND THE OILPAN, SURE HOPE I CAN GET ONE OF THESE GOING.

good luck with the genset! I just got a MEP-003A up & running easy peasy – now looking to try and find an 006 š
I have a MEP006A. I am getting Diesel fuel in my motor oil when it runs. Any idea on trouble shooting this?
You very likely have bad seals on the injection pump input shaft….causing diesle fuel to spill from the pump housing over into the crankcase. There are two seals (back to back) that will need replaced. If these are bad, it is best to inspect the rubber flex disk inside the injection pump as well. This (if failing) will leave black rubber flecks in the housing/fuel/etc. It requires a pump shop to properly replace.
The seals are easy to replace, just make sure you following the instructions in the manuals about locking the pump so it doesn’t jump time while you have the pump out to replace the seals š
Cheers.
Hi Brandon,
Thank you for the input. This unit has an electronic fuel pump. It is separate from the motor. Am I missing something here.
Thanks, ro
The injection pump is different from the dual fuel pumps mounted on the center of the unit. The Injection Pump is on the right side of the machine (viewing the control pane) up front near the radiator fan. You will see many injector lines running to it (6). It is driven by the engine through gears to send timed fuel to the individual cylinders at VERY high pressure. This injection pump is lubricated by (and thus filled) with the fuel that you power the machine with. When these seals fail, the fuel (at 5-10psi) spills over into the crankcase and starts mixing with the motor oil.
This will kill the engine rather quickly as thinned out engine lubrication oil will cause bearing failure.
If you are not fairly familiar with injection pumps, it may be best to transport the unit to a pump rebuilding shop and let them replace the seals (it’s a fairly easy task if you’ve done it before). Messing up the timing can cause serious engine issues.
Thank you Brandon, I will check it out. RO
Hi Brandon,
You were right. I removed the pump and found what looked to be small carbon deposits on the seals. Do you know where I can get replacements seals? RO
Any diesel Injection Pump shop will have these seals.
I have an MEP006A which was running great until i triggered the “Overspeed light” and now i do not know how to reset the generator. Does anyone know how to reset it from an “Overspeed”??
Have you read the manuals I have posted on my site? One of them should have overspeed reset.
I suspect it will be on the speed sensor itself. Have you tried a full restart procedure?
Do you know where the OVERSPEED RESET switch is located?
